The campaign marchers to mark year 2008 as the year for saving rivers of Uttarakhand, by different activists groups, villagers and voluntary organisations started from 1st January reached Ramnagar (Nainital) on 15th January by evening. They were all given hearty welcome by people gathered to attend the two day seminar, where all the foot marchers shared their experiences and views about the pathetic scenario of rivers all over the Uttarakhand region. The two day seminar was attended by represetatives of different communities from all over the Himalayan region, who are struggling to save rivers in their regions. The foot march was carried out in all the major river valley systems starting from the originating point of the rivers. Community gatherings were held in major districts which was organised by the local community suppport. Campaign songs and slogans on the state of rivers were sung by the campaign marchers which touched not only the local community but also others who participated in this process. On the final day all the campaign groups gathered at Ramnagar where water from different rivers was brought and collected in a large vessel with a pledge to do all possible efforts to save them not only form the verge of distinction but also from privatisation and forces that want to comodify it.
